One person has been killed in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, by clashes between police and several suspects on an island on the Nile River.
Police faced resistance when they went to destroy several buildings allegedly illegally built, the BBC writes.
Police say they have responded with tear gas, but witnesses said the resident who died was shot.
19 locals and more than 30 police officers were injured as the operation stopped.
