Basic's touching story: We slept among dead people.

Basic has shown moments he has experienced during the war years of 1992 and 1995. Noting that they made their way with their 22-year-old father, Adam and older brother, Midhat, to leave the genocide in Srebrenica, Basic said that during the trip he was originally separated from his father and then from his brother. He further stressed that on August 7th, after walking for 28 days, they arrived at the Kladanj region, where during this period they slept among dead bodies. He shows that he is in great pain remembering the day when he held his rifle instead of his pencil.

After having made it known that first with his mother and sister the way to reach the UN base in Potocari, Basic has recalled that he was separated from his mother after people on the street told him he was too old to go to the base and that he joined his father and brother in the Susnjari region.

We were two meters away and stopped. We walked all night to reach the village of Susnjari in the village of Jaglici. The road was so narrow that we could progress by walking in line for one. Mines had been placed on all sides of the road, which prevented the group of thousands of people from progressing at speeds of”, Basic said.

Among other things, recalling that Serbian soldiers were firing mortar shells as they passed through the mined fields, he added that “Tech as we left, I noticed that a shell fell near us. At a time like this, you don't have much time to think. Because on one side you walk and hide and then you start running again. They kept firing as all of this happened. ”

The group fell into separate opinions on which side we would progress on. Some wanted to leave one direction, while others believed that if they progressed in that direction they would go to the Kravice region where enemy soldiers were.

This is because there were moles intended to disinform and send people close to their enemies. These times they slaughtered people in the group or were responsible for their death”, Basic indicated, stressing that from where they hid at night, they observed the glow of bullets in the air.

After explaining that the father repeatedly warned them not to lose each other, he added further than the “at that moment Serbs went into the attack. My brother and I got scared and hid in the bushes. We broke up with Dad. My brother told me to keep quiet and not move. We spent all night in the bushes. That night seemed endless. )

The ethnicists from the Bosniaks who had caught wanted to identify themselves, Basic indicated, stressing further that “heard that by not trusting the Bosniaks, they searched whether or not the eyes had been made and then shot at. ”

The Serb killed the wounded by opening fire again. My brother found a bomb somewhere. I wanted it to explode and kill us both. I was tired of waiting for them to come and do the same for us. We could not move out of the country because we were afraid of being caught. Day was dawning. That's when I preferred not to be in my life.

In the morning, we came out of hiding and decided to return from where we were headed. I got up and started running, and I haven't looked back in a moment. After a while I noticed that I was alone. I don't know my brother didn't catch me or I went in the wrong direction. This was the last time I saw my older brother”, Basic showed.

Among other things continuing further than the route happened with a couple killed, Basic has described that “took the man's hand rifle. I didn't know how to use a rifle, but you thought I'd be safer if I had a gun. ”

Among other things, he has explained that some people after shouting “stop! ”, with pairs in our hands, cut off the road while walking alone in the forest, but “after I realized that they were Bosnians we continued on the road and formed a new group of 40. ”

We met with Muhizin Omerovic, who stayed in the forest for more than 60 days. Omerovic climbed a hill and after predicting where we were, he determined the direction where we should advance to reach the safe zone. Omerovic told me, come with me. Whatever my end and yours will be. His words became a source of hope to me”, Basic indicated.

During the progress in the forest, they faced a 17-year-old young man who had lost his foot stepping on the mine and that this was one of the most terrible images that had been faced in this war, Basic noted. We left behind to wait for help. Then, after a few days, we noticed that he committed suicide with a bomb he had found. I remember the days when we slept in the middle of those dead”, he says.

After stressing that from a group he learned that his father and brother were looking for Basic, he said that “was sent to my father's village. My father and I met in the village in 21 days. He was one of the first to arrive in the safe zone. Because he was reluctant to tell his mother that he had lost his children, he was looking for us.

After several days, our stay in that village was again on our way to Baljkovici. That's when I thought about what my peers were doing all over the world. Did they know about our situation? Did they know what I was going through? Did they know of a child who tried to get away from murderers in a situation similar to horror movies?

Stressing that they have no information from Brother Midhat where even the body has not been found, Basic has added that these frightening moments have not been explained to any human to this day.
