Afghan authorities have undertaken a search for some 30 missing villagers, two days after the massive kidnapping in the southern province of Kandahar.
Abdul Raziq, chief of police in Kandahar, said 70 people have been kidnapped from their homes, along Kandahar highway ʹTrancots, while killing 7 of them, and added that the dead's “bodies were found by villagers”.
Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durran said that nearly 30 people have been released today, but another nearly 30 are still considered missing.
Although formally no one has claimed responsibility for these kidnappings and murders, in the pursuit of Taliban extremists were often government officials and security forces, but they are also known for the kidnapping of civilians who have been using them as hostages.
At today's statement, the Taliban have rejected involvement in such kidnappings.
