The US, which is leading a large-scale operation against Islamic State ( IS, former I SIS in Iraq, there are about 5,200 troops in the country, according to the latest statement by the US Department of Defence.
Nujaba, mainly composed of Iraqis, has about 10,000 fighters, according to Reuters reports. As part of Iran-backed Mobilisation's People Forces, the group is considered to be one of the most important militias in Iraq.
In November, Ted Poe from the US House of Representatives proposed the deployment of “terrorism-related sanctions” in Nujaba, Periscopi broadcast. On Wednesday, Donald Trump officially announced his decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, where he plans to move the US Embassy.
The president acknowledged the move would cause disagreement, but says it could help resolve the Arab-Israel conflict.
