In a statement attributed to the State Secretary's spokeswoman, the US is said to be deeply concerned with Kosovo's recent efforts to abolish the Specialised Chambers, created to hear cases of alleged crimes against humanity, war crimes and other serious crimes committed during the 1998-2000 conflict.
“Call on leaders of the Republic of Kosovo to maintain their commitment to the work of Specialised Chambers and not to affect the court's jurisdiction. As Secretary Tillerson said on December 21st, the search for justice in the Balkans is not over, and we remain committed to upholding justice for victims. We applaud the moral courage of Kosovo political leaders who approved the law and made the necessary changes in the Constitution in 2015 to enable the tribunal to function. We strongly encourage Kosovo's current political leaders and Parliament deputies not to undo this achievement by interfering in court, now or in the future”, spokeswoman Heather Neuert has said.
