A statement by former Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djkanovic that Serbs in this state are the product of the political processes of the 1990s has sparked harsh reactions in Serbian media.
The “Serbs in Montenegro cannot be treated as diaspora, even though most of them became Serbs in the political processes of the 1990s, but first of all because they and all their ancestors were born in Montenegro”, Djukanovic said in an interview for the newspaper Pobjeda, the Metro newspaper broadcasts.
In the harsh reactions of Serbian media, Djukanovic is represented as one of the people the US had committed to destroying Yugoslavia. According to official data, 44.6 per cent of Montenegro's population considers themselves Montenegrin, 28.7 per cent Serbs, 8.6 per cent Bosniaks and 4.9 per cent Albanians.
