An Erdogan spokesman has announced that the OIC will hold an emergency meeting in Turkey on 13 December to co-ordinate, in response to the US decision.

Founded in 1969, the OIC has 57 members, most of them in the majority Muslim population.

“We have clarified to all of our co-ordinators that the US decision is not in line with international law and diplomacy”, Erdogan said in Turkey's central province of Sivas, referring to a telephone call he made with several leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron.

“In the program we will create during this meeting, we will reveal how the decision will not be so easily applicable”, he said, adding that he considers President Trump's decision on Jerusalem invalid.

The Arab League, through a statement at an emergency session in Cairo, has named President Trump's decision “dangerous violation of international law”, and is said to be seeking resolution from the UN Security Council to reject the US decision.

The Arab League has 22 active member states.
