Tens of people were arrested in May following an investigation by the “Law Implementation Centre in Southeast Europe” over a customs fraud.
Police have confiscated 213,519 Bitcoins, worth 423m euros, while now reportedly worth about three billion euros.
The operation included extensive research in which more than 100 addresses, suspects, and several vehicles were included. Of 23 arrested, five are customs officers. Police seized equipment, communications equipment, computers, tablets and bank documents.
The organised group of criminals consisted of Bulgarian nationals linked to Macedonia, Greece, Romania and Serbia” said officials of the “Law Implementation Centre in Southeast Europe”.
According to police, the group recruited customs officials who were corrupt in all the countries involved in order to infiltrate a virus into customs computer systems. Once the virus was installed, violators were able to change remittances, so the cargo that was controlled and past appeared in the customs system.”Periscope
