Albania took part in the Organisation for Islamic Co-operation Summit, which declared East Jerusalem the capital of Palestine and called on the international community to follow its steps.
“We will not accept any role of the United States in the peace process. The country showed it is fully unilateral in favour of Israel”, Abbas said.
I invite all nations that value international law and justice to recognise Jerusalem as the conquered capital of the Palestinian state. Fighters with their friends forget to fight enemies. We need a diplomatic solution. Israel must be prevented from devouring Palestinian land from day to day. And we should not accept policies and behavior that he forwards to us every day”, Erdogan said, writes Top Channel.
The invitation to this summit was extended to all prime ministers and foreign affairs ministers of the organisation's member states.
Sources confirm that, due to urgency in organising the summit and confrontation with the agenda of Albanian leaders, Albania was represented at the ambassador level.
Albania has been a member of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation since 1992. The 57 members of the organisation, including Albania, said by a joint statement they remain committed to a just and comprehensive solution, with the formation of two states, and urged other countries to recognise the state of Palestine and East Jerusalem as its occupied capital.
The Israelites conquered Jerusalem in 1967, but Israel's sovereignty over Jerusalem was never recognised internationally and all countries have embassies at Tel Aviv.
According to the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, President Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel marks Washington's withdrawal from its role in the Middle East peace process.
