During a speech today in Barcelona, Mr. Rajoy has requested participation of the silent “most of them ~x1> so that their <x2ndre will be converted to” vote.
This is Mr. Rajoy's first visit to Catalonia since his government in Madrid has implemented direct rule in this region two weeks ago.
Several separatist leaders of Catalonia have been arrested by Spain's authorities because of the unilateral declaration of independence announced last month.
They face charges of sedition, rebellion and misuse of public funds.
It is estimated that some 750 thousand people were involved in the march on the streets in central Barcelona to seek their release from prison last night. REL.
This wealthy region has declared independence from Spain on October 27th, following the referendum. This referendum by authorities in Madrid had been declared illegal.
Spain's central government has temporarily suspended Catalonia's autonomy, dismissed the president, Carlos Puigdemont, and other regional officials, and announced early elections for December 21st.
