In October 22nd local elections, 72 thousand votes lost

Their dissatisfaction with the political scene in Kosovo, a large part of citizens expressed it by scraping out their ballots or leaving it empty.

Over 65 thousand people, not knowing how to vote, either out of discontent, made them invalid. And 6 thousand others failed.

The newspaper Word has calculated the number of invalid ballots in all of Kosovo's municipalities, in the first three weeks elections, thus bringing their total number to a total level.

72 thousand and 143 is the total of invalid ballots in the October 22nd local elections.

The number of blank ballots in all Kosovo municipalities is 65 thousand and 373 votes, while the number of blank ballots in all Kosovo municipalities is 6 thousand and 770”, reportedly in the final election results that have published the Central Election Commission on their site.

The municipality leading with the number of invalid balloting is Pristina with 6 thousand and 753 invalid votes and 539 blanked, followed by Prizren with 5,202 invalid votes for the last elections.

The municipality that has the least invalid votes is Mamushha's, where their number is only 93, followed by the Klokot municipality with 140 invalid votes.

The number of ballots left empty has also been high in this election. In Prizren alone, their number totals 829.

Bureau: Invalid certificates have been made deliberately

At the Central Election Commission, they say they're analyzing why there's such a large number of these ballot papers.

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has said that after their analysis more will be known why it has come to invalid votes.

The Central Election Commission, after each election process analyzes its aspects. In this direction we will also see the nature of the unworthiness of votes. So, there will be more reasons why it's come up to the invalid” votes, Elez said.

Meanwhile, connoisseurs of the election process say invalid ballots were made on purpose, not ignorantly, as citizens did not want to vote.

“It is thought that balloting is invalid due to poor voter education, but this time there are many educational and information about how it's voted, so it might be that even voters have refused to vote, which is why there's a lot of invalid paperwork”, Burjan said.

In previous elections over 100,000 invalid ballots

Large numbers of invalid balloting, there were also in previous elections. Even in local elections held on November 3, 2013, their numbers totaled over 100,000.

For this, analysts had blamed the CEC and political parties, which had not made adequate information to citizens about the voting procedure, but had said these balloting could also be the result of deliberate mistakes.

Activist Astrit Gashi had told the media that the reason why there had been so many invalid ballots was that the Central Election Commission (KQZ), in particular, political parties had not conducted an active citizen information campaign on how to vote specifically for assembly voting.

According to Gashi, many citizens were confused by voting some of the mayor's candidates, while only one would have to vote.
