What we're going to show you is a synergy experiment between industrial and environmental needs that, in a 20-year period, has produced an unexpected result.

The project began in 1997, when Princeton explorers Daniel Janzen and Winnie Hallwatchs were presented at the offices of Del Oro, a company producer of Costa Rica-based orange chocolates.

Their proposal was very tempting: if Del Oro had agreed to give up the Guanacasta Zone, some of her lands attached to it, so that tons of orange waste could be downloaded there in these pastures without having to pay the cost of annihilation.

In view of the enormous cost of the waste process, the company agreed immediately, and 1,000 trucks left without hesitation to those man - made pastures.

The effect on earth's composition was virtually immediate.

After just six months, orange skin had become a layer of clay clay clay. Their presence had also reactivated local wildlife, as decomposition had attracted and caused insects to breed.

The unfortunately short - lived experiment after another company operating in the same sector forced Del Oro to admit that he had contaminated a natural park. Costa Rica's Supreme Court called the cause of rational contamination, and the experiment was terminated by law for the next 15-20 years, until ecologist Timothy Treuer decided to go to that area to assess the conditions in 2013.

His biggest challenge was finding the exact area where orange skins were thrown, which took two expeditions to the territory. The territory had been completely transformed and the fertile land had become a thriving forest.

To understand the extent of the change, it is only to think that it took years to recover the wooden sign that had been placed in the middle of the gap, now surrounded by trees and covered with vegetation.

Comparing (View photos) This jungle in the neighboring area, not only did Treuer notice greater growth in trees but also a much greater variety of species present.

How orange shells are able to perform this miracle is still being studied. According to experts, they have had the dual function of sterilizing land with their acidity by eliminating weeds and regeneration of poor soil.

The experiment, of course, has attracted the attention of many people, since every day we have the paradox of non-exploitation of organic waste by eliminating what are rich in nutrients, while large areas of the earth are poor due to the exploitation and lack of nutrients.

Of course, companies cannot and should not download waste to the ground without control, but why not think about starting projects like this in other specific parts?

Anything would be useful: companies would save expenses, natural parks, or abandoned pastures would regenerate and expand, and our weak land could recover a small portion of the precious vital resources we receive every day.
