Thousands of people have spent the second night in improvised tents or under the open sky, while authorities consider there is no hope of finding the evental survivors, by the powerful earthquake that has hit the region near the Iran-Iraq border, which has killed more than 437 people.
Iran's Interior Ministry said yesterday that in the Iranian province of Kermanshah, 407 people have been reported dead and nearly 6,700 others injured.
Iranian news agencies presented different figures this morning. Until the official news agency, I The RNA, the RNA, reported on 430 people dead in Iran and 7,156 injured, the semi-official agency, Tahsin, said 445 people have died and another 7,370 have been wounded.
Western news agencies Reuters and AFP reported this morning that authorities have halted most of the rescue operations, saying they could hardly be found survivors of the early earthquake.
At least 7 people have been killed in Iraq, while another 530 have been injured, officials have said, broadcast Free Europe.
