The situation we are in requires a serious, deep investigation that will enable the dawning of the truth as a submarine that was perfectly able to sail, fell victim to an explosion”, the head of state said in a short speech at the Argentine Navy headquarters.
“San Juan” is missing from Wednesday, November 15th, on 07:30 (10:30 GMT). The submarine has not activated warning signals in case of avaia in the floating vehicle.
The Navy has refused to officially propose that there is no longer any hope of finding survivors.
In the area where the explosion was recorded, up to 400 miles [400 km] from the Argentinian coast, ocean depths range from 200 to 10,000 feet [200 to 3,000,000 m]. Below 600 meters, “San Juan” would be dissolved by pressure, experts say.
For Horacio Tobias, former head of diving “San Juan”, the explosion has been so violent that the crew has not had time to understand what it was all about.
Research has now focused on a more limited area in the South Atlantic to enable the locate of the military submarine.
