According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, which has produced the index for the last 10 years, only Botswana, Chile, Costa Rica, Japan, Mauritius, Panama, Qatar, Switzerland, Uruguay and Vietnam are free of conflict.

Brazil is the country that has fallen off the list and, as one of the worst places in the year, poses a serious concern in front of the Rio Olympics, IEP founder Steve Killlea, told “The Independent”.
If we look at the world in general, it has become less peaceful in the past 12 months”, Killelea said.
The IEP tries to determine the positive peace in numeric terms, giving countries results for a number of factors, including “accepting the rights of others”, “low-level corruption”, “Free information flow” and “the actual governance”.
Finally, the index identified Europe as the world's most peaceful region.
But the continent is not immune to war Britain, France, Belgium and others are deeply involved in external conflicts in the Middle East and face a growing threat to peace from international terrorism.
