Spain's prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, has said he has asked Catalonian leader Carles Puigdemont to confirm whether he has declared independence.

He has said it is necessary to know this before the government of Spain takes other measures, reports the BBC.

Yesterday, Puigdemont signed the declaration of independence, but postponed its implementation to allow negotiations to be held.

Rajoy accused Puigdemont of deliberately creating confusion and said he wants to make things clear.
