British Prime Minister Theresa May ordered the launch of an investigation into claims that one of her ministers has asked the secretary to buy sex toys for her, amid efforts against the culture of sexual blackmail in politics.
According to British “Daily Mail”, Mark Garnier, minister of international trade, asked his secretary Caroline Edmondson to buy two vibrators and also referred to her sexually. Garnnier himself told the newspaper that the comment was part of a fun talk about a television program and that the request to the woman was just a joke. But the secretary denied the high official's claims. Health Minister Jeremy Hunt said Sunday that Prime Minister May had asked authorities to find out if Garnier has violated the ministers' code of conduct.
If this is true, the incident is totally unacceptable. Authorities will investigate whether there have been violations of the ministerial code. The parents of those students who hope to find a job at Westminster should be confident that they will not become the target of such behavior”, said Jeremy Hun, minister of health.
Reports of inappropriate behavior in British politics and other industries flooded the river of accusations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
