Asked whether representatives of national councils have discussed the request for southern Serbia, if it requires joining Kosovo as the model of Catalonia, Brnabiq has said it has not been done and that he does not want to talk about it, the Indexline broadcasts.
“These are not topics of discussion, discussion about institutional mechanisms in line with Serbia's Constitution and laws. This is absolutely not in accordance with the Constitution or laws, for this reason I am not open to debate”, Brnabiq told reporters as he first met with the minority council.
The leader of the Movement for Democratic Progress, Jonuz Musliu, has said Serbia must accept the March 1992 referendum, in line with the UN Charter, which guarantees the self-setment of indigenous peoples.
Musliu has also welcomed the independence referendum held in Catalun, calling on the international community to recognise the Albanian referendum in southern Serbia held in 1992.
“Referendum is an expression of the will and legal right of indigenous peoples in the case of Catalonia, guaranteed by international law. The referendum on Albanians in the Presevo Valley is also legitimate and this can guarantee peace and stability between Presevo and Serbia, but must respect the right of Albanians in southern Serbia who voted in favour of joining Kosovo”, Musliu has said.
