Merkel's attempts to pass immigration law have failed

“Merkel has seriously damaged the German economy, failing to review a necessary immigration law that would enable the country capable workers from outside”, Barley told the German daily newspaper “Rheinsche Post”.
Katarina Barley, appointed as Labour and Social Affairs Minister after last month's elections, during which her centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) marked a deep loss.
Merkel's conservative political bloc has recently agreed to start negotiations on the immigration law.
The ideas proposed by other political parties have included a similar immigration system with the one used in Canada.
Research conducted by the consultancy company, “boston Consulting Group” has suggested Germany will experience a 2.4 million labour market deficit by 2020, which could increase by 10 million by 2030.
