French President Emmanuel Macron said today about the proposal regarding reforming the European Union and the idea of a eurozone budget asking the German Chancellor to get involved in the debate.
“If we are ready to become part of the joint effort for our security, for our digital system, energy, migration policy, the fight against terrorism, then we have to explain who is willing to do all of this, but say he doesn't care about the eurozone budget”, Macron stressed during a debate on Europe in Frankfurt, before meeting with Angela Merkel to reassure the book fair.
This issue is sensitive to Berlin and Angela Merkel, who fear any development towards a debt union in Europe.
According to the French president, Europeans have one year to clarify their visions for Europe's future.
I think we should debate, we have a year to clarify and have a common plan. That's why I've come to Germany several times, which I invite the Chancellor to do in France, as well as all the leaders who want it”, he stressed.
German Chancellor has indicated in an interview published in regional press group newspapers RND that Emmanuel Macron's proposals were interesting, just as the establishment of a post of European Finance Minister is attended by Atish.
She also cited German fears: “With me there will be no union of national debts”.
