The Vetevendosje movement has held today a rally with women candidates for the Municipal Assembly, where the importance of engagement and mobilizing women for major change in Kosovo municipalities has been stressed.
In her opening speech of the rally, Activist Woman Secretariat Director Nazlie Bala said that although the journey over the years has been a confrontation with inequality, it has never given up trying for equality. She has also discussed numerous women's encounters, from which major problems are learned that follow them in their daily life. Bala said further that commitment to women and girls is necessary to plan for resolving their problems.
“Our so far engagement testifies to the presence of women candidates for Communist countries throughout Kosovo, which I do not trust in the formal and formal percentage formalism, but the will to engage. Which is better than ACTS! Is the principle of equality impressed? We're aware of the time we live it, but we don't believe in formalisms, because we don't literally live as women and we're half of the country”, Bala said among other things.
After Balaj, V Movement Vice President DECIE!, Fatmire Mulhrama-Kollcak has said society is more open and democratic than is the involvement of women in public life, education, business and media. She has added that the battle against the prejudices of conservative societies starts right from the local level.
The “against the positive movements that have been marked in recent years, as if there were no forced quota of representation of the woman, even today we would have no merit and equal representation. The composition of the government cabinet, with only two women minister, representing the reggresses compared to the past”, said Mulhrama-Kollcak.
While MP Albin Kurti said there is no need for statistics to note the lack of women in politics, noting that their commitment to change this situation is extremely important. A society measures its civilization precisely through the size of gender equality, which it allows or does not allow for women. Our society leaves much to wish for”, Kurti said, adding that despite that, women are committed consistently.
Kurti said further that in Kosovo we have more women involved, but not participation. And, he added, that to move from involvement to participation, it must be transferred from integration to liberation.
For women this has two aspects: liberation from oppression in patriarchism and liberation from exploitation in capitalism”, MP Kurti also said.
He also said that the municipality should be an equality space and solidarity, noting that it invests in building infrastructure capacities which citizens bring water, electricity, transportation, school, ambulance, library, park, street, sidewalk, playground, sports field.
