Thailand has approved a new law to prevent smoking on the most popular beaches.

Those caught breaking the law will face prison until a year.

The move will be implemented as many as 20 beaches, including the popular tourist destination Phuket.

The decision was made after the country's Department of Coastal Resources had found tens of thousands of cigarette tails that had been thrown into the sand.
