Brezovica, government failure in 18 years

Even after 18 years of liberation, the government has failed to revitalise it, though there was such an effort last year, where the French consortium had withdrawn from investment.

Concern remains that no step has yet been taken concerning this company by the new government, until past failed in its privatisation.

Economic Affairs Director Lulzim Beqiri for Indexline says the government urgently has to bridge problems with the French company, which was attracted by investment and launch a re-proposal of Brezovica.

The government must begin a more dynamic and comprehensive tender plan of Brezovica again, but this time with conditions and other supplementary guarantees bypassing Serbia's influence, with specific guarantees for potential investors” Beqiri has said.

However, Beqiri is sceptical that the government will start dealing with Brezovica.

“I think the Government has to deal with Brezovica because there are coalition partners the Serbian list and their position known regarding the privatisation of Brezovica, so the Serbian list will refuse to stay in the government if the latter decides to privatise this state giant” has added Beqiri.

Beqiri has further indicated the economic damage to the non-exploitation of this wealth.

“economic standards are staggering because Brezovica has a good strategic position and with a good investment it would have stable and stable revenues, so it takes courage and start saving the country's wealth by turning to citizens not to criminal gangs”

On the other hand, Haki Shatri, adviser to the prime minister for economics and finance for Indexline, has said the current government on the agenda has also planned Brezovica asset to return to development.

However, Shatri says it takes time because the Brezovica process has become zero.

“Sic we know the government's commitment that earlier for Brezovica has failed. This government in the development plans for the economy, in the agenda, has assets that are natural resources to become the function of development, one of them is Brezovica and mountain tourism. Since this has failed and has turned to the point of voice, we have an agenda to start without delay, as soon as we use this resource to function” Shatri said.

Indexline has been calling for a month and sending email questions to the Ministry of Trade and Industry regarding the Brezovica plan, but the same haven't answered.

In April 2015, the Government of Kosovo and the French consortium had the first public-private partnership agreement. After that, the parties had entered a transitary period of 180 days, a period that envisioned reaching certain conditions. The Kosovo government's commitment was to expropriate certain lands and assets while the task of the consortium partner was to provide the 164m euros as guarantee of the deal.

While the government had expropriated properties worth about 30m euros, the consortium partners had never been able to secure the first phase money, nor the second until even the deal failed last year.
