(an hour ago)The United States and Saudi Arabia are expected to announce a new nuclear energy co-operation agreement that would pave the way for Riyadh's development of this sector for the first time.
According to officials familiar with the process, the deal envisions US companies being involved in building and managing nuclear plants on Saudi Arabia's territory.
It is reported that the agreement could enable Saudi Arabia to develop capacity for producing fuel needed for nuclear reactors, though technical details and participating companies have not yet been made public.
Before full implementation, the deal is expected to seek consultations with the American Congress, as well, due to regulations related to international nuclear co-operation.
An official announcement from both sides is expected to be published soon, while the agreement is seen as an important step in strategic relations between Washington and Riyadh.
