Mayor Totaj: Government received more than 40m euros from Prizren, citizens are paying the price

Prizren's mayor, Shacir Totaj, has declared that the municipality is facing serious financial difficulties, suggesting that over the past few years over 40m euros have been received from the municipal budget, while only this year over 17m euros have been seized.
Through a Facebook post, Totaj said that the municipality is accepting demands by citizens for investments in neighbourhoods and villages every day, stressing that they are seriously treated.
We are accepting every day numerous and fully reasonable demands for investments in our municipality and villages. I want to assure you that each one of them is heard and seriously treated”, wrote Totaj.
He has blamed the financial burden of the Kolektive contract on the current situation, saying that, although this contract is a duty of the Ministry of Education and a right of education workers, the cost has been carried to municipalities.
“Unfortunately, Prizren's municipality is facing a serious financial blow. Even though the Kolektive Agreement is a duty of the Ministry of Education and a merited right of education workers, the financial burden has been carried to the municipalities. During these years, the Prizren municipality has received over 40m euros, while during this year alone over 17m euros. These are tools that would have been invested in roads, schools, health, infrastructure and other projects in the service of citizens”, it has been expressed.
Totaj has asked citizens for consensus on delays in implementing certain projects, stressing that they do not relate to the municipality's lack of will.
You know that during our mandate we have invested in every part of the municipality and that remains our commitment. Therefore, I ask you for understanding of the delays in implementing certain projects, which are not the result of the lack of will, but of the financial circumstances we are facing”, Totaj has declared.
In the end, Prizren's chairman said he would continue to seek a solution with central institutions for overcoming this situation.
“As the Mayor of the municipality, I will continue to search, along with the central level and relevant institutions, a fair and sustainable solution to this issue so that municipalities can continue to have investments and offer citizens projects and services that deserve” has been completed.
