Kacanic: The officer in handcuffs allegedly asked citizens for over 600 euros for unnecessary documents

An official person in Kacanik has been arrested under suspicion of abuse of official office or authority, after allegedly urging a citizen to pay over 600 euros for documents that were not included in the construction permit file.
According to the Kosovo Police, investigations began after authorities accepted information on allegations that the official had exceeded his competencies during handling a request for construction permits.
“alleged that the person, using official duty or authority, in addition to regular documentation for construction permits, had asked the victim for additional documents (projects), which he would complete, provided that the victim later paid over 600 euros to a private geodical company”, is said at the Police's announcement.
According to the authorities, after the citizen had received permission to build, he had noted that the documents he had paid were not found in the official file, which prompted him to report the case to the police.
After reporting, investigators from the Directorate for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Corruption took the necessary investigative actions in co-ordination with the Founding Prosecutor at Ferizaj.
This day, in the presence of the defence attorney, the suspect has been interviewed in the criminal act, the use of official position or authority, according to Article 414 of the Republic of Kosovo Penal Code”, further said in the statement.
With the prosecutor's ruling on the case, the suspect has been detained for 48 hours, while investigations into the case are under way.
