Even the Italian Embassy joins concern raised by the EU Office for ruining homes near Weyman

On July 24th, the collapse of 11 houses on the shore of Lake Weman, in the municipality of Zubin Potok under the argument that objects were built without permission on land managed by the Public Hydroeconomic Company “Iber-Lepenci”

For this action, the EU said it is concerned about the lack of respect for regular legal procedure in this and in some other recent cases in northern Kosovo since February of this year.

The EU called for the immediate suspension of any collapse, forced evacuation or further possession until concerns related to regular legal procedure, proportional, property rights, human rights and effective judicial means are properly addressed”.

“Autorities should co-operate without delay with the affected residents and municipalities and consider legitimate solutions”.

Also, the EU said the role of the Kosovo Police in such operations should be strictly required within its legal mandate, based on demands or clear decisions of competent authorities, and properly documented”.

The ruins were carried out under the assistance of Kosovo Police.

The irreversible implementation measures in the context of developing procedures and controversial property claims raise serious concerns about rule of law. In line with Kosovo's European path, The EU expects authorities to address these concerns with urgency and transparency and ensure that similar actions do not repeat”.
