The thyroid is a very small gland in the neck, but its role in the body is much greater than you think. It affects metabolism, energy, body temperature, humor, sleep, and even the way the heart works. The problem is that symptoms of thyroid disorders often appear “abnormal”: fatigue, stress, weight gain, nervousness or lack of energy. And for that very reason, many people ignore them for months, or years.
Here are some of the most common signs that may indicate that the thyroid is not functioning properly:
1. Inexplicable weight changes: If you add or lose weight without changing your diet or physical activity, it may be connected to thyroid. A slow “thyroid” slows down metabolism, while a highly active thyroid can speed it up.
2. Continued game: Don't you have energy after you get enough sleep? This is one of the most common symptoms of hypothyroidism.
3. Feelings of cold or heat: If your body cools more than usual, or you cannot endure the heat, thyroid may be the cause.
