(an hour ago)About 12,000 people have been evacuated from southwestern France, while the country is fighting constant fires, days after two firefighters died near Bordeaux Airport, French media reported.
The government of the Gironda region said more than 2,000 hectares of land have been destroyed, reports the BBC, broadcast Periscopi.
The use of internal and electric-burning engines has been banned in mainly forest areas, and a number of roads have been closed. It wasn't reported to hurt Thursday.
Meanwhile in Italy, authorities have homazed a fireman who died extinguishing a fire in San Cataldo, while Sicilia President Renato Schifani congratulated another person involved in the same operation.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Pietados paid tribute to the late fireman Alessandro Marchi, who said he died “in community service”.
“It will not be forgotten”, he said in an X post.
In an update Wednesday, Civil Protection head Salvo Cocina said there were more than 350 fires on the island, including ten large ones, which led to preliminary evacuations.
He said fires had human causes, adding that extinguishing fires has become a social problem and public order.
