Turkish nationals arrested on Greece-Albania border, police seized over 100kg of marijuana

A 43-year-old Turkish national has been arrested by Greek authorities during an antidrug operation conducted near the border between Greece and Albania, where more than 109kg of marijuana are seized.
According to Reports of Albanian media, the operation was carried out in the early morning hours in a border area of Igumenica, after Greek police had obtained information about a vehicle allegedly loaded with narcotics in the green border area, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
During the vehicle's search, police officials found and seized a total of 102 packs of marijuana, weighing 100 pounds [109 kg] and 364 grams.
The drugs were hidden in the back of the car, taking the back seats and the trunk space.
According to Greek police data, more than 1.1 tonnes of narcotics allegedly entered Greek territory through border zones with Albania have been seized since September 2025.
The most numerous cases of drug capture have been recorded in the Igumenica region, both on land and sea routes.
However, similar operations and considerable sequences have been reported in other areas of Greece, including Janina, Thessaloniki, and Kosturi.
