World Cup 2026 at risk: Nearly any match can be interrupted

The 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, may face an unexpected challenge outside the green field.
According to expert estimates, almost all 104 tournament matches are at risk of being affected by unstable weather conditions, resulting in temporary disruptions during their development.
The biggest concerns are related to central regions of the United States, where cities like Kansas City, Atlanta and Dallas can be hit by severe storms of lightning and thunder, hail, and even tornadoes. These atmospheric phenomena can pose serious risks to players, technical staffs and fans.
Meanwhile, coastal cities such as Miami and Houston are expected to face extreme temperatures and humidity, conditions that could directly affect the physical performance of football players. The situation is even more challenging in Monterrey, Mexico, where temperatures can reach extremely high levels during the tournament season.
Organisers and FIFA are expected to monitor weather developments closely, while they may be forced to make changes at match times or implement additional security measures to protect participants.
