(4 hours ago)Albania's president, Bajram Begaj, attended this Friday at the state ceremony organised in Pristina on the 27th anniversary of Kosovo's liberation, where he praised the sacrifice of freedom fighters, the role of Western allies and strategic partnership between Albania and Kosovo.
In his speech, Begaj named it 12 June as a date inscribed in the historical memory of the Albanian nation, stressing that Kosovo's freedom came as a result of the sacrifice of thousands of men and women, the Kosovo Liberation Army war and the intervention of NATO, the United States of America and Western allies.
The president honoured Kosovo's historical figures, among them Ibrahim Rugova, Adem Jashar and Adem Demac, naming them a symbol of Kosovo resistance and statehood.
An important part of the speech was dedicated to the judicial process to former KLA leaders in The Hague.
Begaj stated that they are facing a major historical “injustice”, while stressing that “no court and no attempt to rewrite history could alienate the great truth that the KLA was not the aggressor, but the shield of a people which was being exterminated”.
