At least 55 killed, images of the explosion of an explosives depot in Myanmar

At least 55 people were killed when an ammunition depot controlled by a rebel army in northeastern Myanmar near the China border erupted, local media said.
The cause of Sunday's explosion in the village of Kaung Tat in Chan State is not immediately clear.
Several homes were damaged in the explosion around 12:30 local time, and rescue operations were said to be continuing.
The images spread in social media showed a large smoke cloud followed by secondary explosions, Telegrafi reports Periscope
Other images showed buildings that were completely destroyed.
The blast occurred in an area controlled by the National Liberation Army Tajang (TNLA), one of the most powerful rebel groups in Myanmar, which has been fighting for decades for greater autonomy by the central government.
The alliance has carried out an armed rebellion against the military government of Myanmar, which has been in power since a coup in 2021.
Sunday, TNLA confirmed the explosion in a Facebook statement, saying the stored explosives were used in mining operations. The area is known for its mines rich in ruby.
The group said the incident resulted in multiple <x0-victims” among local residents. He added that an investigation into the cause of the blast was under way and those responsible would be held accountable. /Periscope
