The 2026 Olympic week starts with children's activities, Rama: Mediterranean Games opening to be held in Pristina

Pristina Mayor Progress Rama said the activities will continue throughout the week, while 4 June in the capital a race with over 1,000 children from all over Kosovo will also be organised.

We have activities, we have organised various events of sport, art, culture, and today I am grateful to President Ismet Krasniqi for joining us because it is also the week of the Olympics, the 2026 Olympic Week that is being organised from today. One week, we have various sporting events behind us, and you see them in different parts of the capital squares, and they are filled with children, sports activities, art and culture activities, and this will continue throughout the day. And on June 4th, we have more than a thousand children from different schools from all over Kosovo who will join us here in a race run. Thanks to the Kosovo Olympic Committee, as well as the chairman of the Athletics Federation that are with us today, and we are celebrating this wonderful day of children's day even on the week of the Olympics 2026”, he said, Online Economy broadcasts Periscope.

KOK President Ismet Krasniqi said the Olympic Week is being organised in 26 Kosovo municipalities and aims to activate children in sports.

I, as president of the Olympic Committee, am proud to be so proud today that I am looking at all this good atmosphere from the children of the city of Pristina and other cities. As I mentioned earlier, this event is being held throughout Kosovo, in 26 Kosovo municipalities, all week will be of sporting activities by our children. Our goal is to enable our children to engage in sports, to leave television, phones, and to be as healthy as possible. We'll be focused on the more we activate our children's sports. This is one of the activities that is producing a fine outcome, and you see the faces of your children as they are happy. We will continue as the Olympic Committee to promote the Olympic movement as much as we can, so that as much as we can be active. Because one country, a people that are active in sports, is a healthy people and, above all, health is primary and I believe that we will do our job as Olympic Committee, as Olympic movement”, he said.

Asked about the discussions that the opening of the Mediterranean Games be held at Mitrovica Stadium, Rama said Pristina is a host of games and key ceremonies will be held in the capital.

Pristina is the host of the Mediterranean Games. The Mediterranean opening Games should be in the capital because the capital is nicotine, so everything will happen so that more than 60% of all sports will play part of the games in the capital. So the capital has been anchored together with the Olympic Committee, and the analysis of professionals who even deal with the issue has proposed it. So we shouldn't politicise these things. I've been calling since 2023 to go beyond politics, to get together, to the local level, the central level, to do the best possible games ever, the Mediterranean Games, because we have only one chance, and that's in 2030. While KOK President Ismet Krasniqi said decisions for the Mediterranean Games are taken by the Organising Committee and then sent for approval to the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games.

So they could all be proposals which, when they're good, we as an organisational committee can take, but set up organisational committee.
