GEG summit in Istanbul brought together engineering girls from eight countries

Global Engineering Girls (GEG), Limak-led international social impact initiative to advance women's participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), brought together engineering students from eight countries during the GEG summit for 2026 in Istanbul.

The programme was established by Limak Holding as Turkey's engineering girls in 2015, and was later renamed as Global Engineering Girls to expand internationally. Limak Holding is a major international and concessional group of Pristina International Airport. The event marked the eighth edition of the annual meeting and reflected the transformation of the initiative from a national programme in Turkey to a global movement under the Global Engineering Girls brand.

During the past year, GEG expanded its international network by welcoming participants from Spain, the United Kingdom, Ivory Coast and Mozambique, along with its existing presence in Turkey, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Saudi Arabia.

Global Engineering Girls Kosova proudly participated in the GEG summit in Istanbul, where future engineers from Turkey, Northern Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Côte d'Ivoire, Mozambique and the United Kingdom gathered in a powerful climate of sistering, co-operation and leadership.

In this event, organised by Ebru ãozdemir, the chairman of the Limak and Limak Holding Foundation, Mahinur ãozdemir Göktaş, Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Services, along with leaders, mentors and professionals from various industries around the world.

The organisation, which hosted approximately 320 students from all participating countries, took place at Limak Eurasia Luxury Hotel in Istanbul. Throughout the event, sessions with 22 prominent leaders addressed topics including leadership, innovation, technology, career development and empowerment of women in engineering. In addition to the students, the meeting hosted more than 500 participants, including former students, mentors, trainers and interested parties of the project.

With GEG, we are crossing cultural boundaries and barriers

Stressing the importance of equal opportunities in engineering, Ebru finishedmir said:

In today's world, we're not just talking about 'time' or 'count' anymore. We're talking artificial intelligence, automation and sustainability. If you want to solve the world's most complex engineering problems, it is impossible to thrive in global competition leaving behind half your talents. Global data confirms that gender engineering teams are 25% more likely to surpass performance, yet women still make up only 28% of graduates worldwide. We're here to change these numbers. You are the ones to make sure that future algorithms are right. Seeing our former students here today, the women who used to stand where you are and now thrive in their professional lives is the most concrete example of the GEG effect. You are now part of the 2,000-member Global Engineering Sistership. Whenever you need a business partner, a mentor, or the courage to make your voice hear, remember this day and the energy in this room. ”

For Global Engineering Girls Kosova students, the meeting represented more than an international event. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of global solidarity, women's leadership, intercultural exchange and shared vision of building a more comprehensive future in engineering and technology.
