American congressmen in Presevo, Rexhepi: Discrimination against Albanians in Valley Must Stop

Albanian National Council Chairman Enkel Rexhepi has indicated that American congressmen Keith Self and Suhas Submanyam are staying in Presevo today, who were hosted at the offices of the Albanian National Council along with MP Shaip Kamberi and other associates. During the meeting, according to Rexhepi, the problems the Albanians in the Presevo Valley have been facing for decades, including the equipment of addresses, non-recognition of diplomas, lack of institutional representation and lack of economic development.
We had the opportunity to discuss all topics and issues that, now and decades, face Presevo Valley. Assimilation, non-recognition of diplomas, non-representation in institutions, poverty and non-developing of our municipalities have a clear purpose: depopulation of the Valley by Albanians”, Rexhepi has declared.
He has stressed that lack of investments and failure to implement agreements reached for the integration of Albanians into state institutions continue to remain serious concerns for the Albanian community in southern Serbia.
“The lack of investment, the blocking of tools from the Republic of Kosovo for the Albanian National Council, the power plantism of any institution, the failure to reach the Miratoc Lojan border, the failure to implement Plan 7 Points and the Actional Plan for the integration of Albanians to state institutions are clear evidence of a discriminated approach (4)x1>, it has been expressed.
The meeting was also present at Teuta Fazliu, which according to Rexhepi is one of the cases of Albanians affected by the failure of addresses and that her case has taken to the Strasbourg Court.
“kongresmen had the opportunity to personally hear concrete examples of how the equipment of addresses is selecting especially Albanians”, Rexhepi has said.
Special attention during the meeting was also given to the bill initiated by US Congressman Keith Self, which Rexhepi said is being viewed as a great hope for international support to the Albanians in the Valley.
“Congressman Keith Self's bill, which has found support from both US political camps, remains our great hope for international support that will force Serbia's government to prevent discrimination and violation of basic human rights against Albanians in the Presevo Valley”, he said.
Finally, Rexhepi has thanked the American congressmen for their visit and support, underlining the strong ties of Albanians to the United States.
The “Albanians in general, and those in the Valley in particular, remain the most pro-American community in the region”, it concluded.
