Alarming situation at RTK, workers risk being paid again

RTK's Independent Trade Union and the Kosovo Media Association have expressed deep concern over the financial situation in which Kosovo Radio Television was introduced, following the execution of over 1m euros through the final procedures in the case of the “milioner” show.
According to unions, this development has put the public broadcaster in a serious financial situation, jeopardising the normal functioning of the institution and economic security of some 680 workers.
The report reportedly deepened even after the RTK Board meeting, where it has become known that the institution has addressed the Ministry of Finance with urgent demands for overcoming the situation.
“Initially applied for financial support, while then the requirement for loans worth 1.4m euros for coverage of wages and other operational expenditures” is said in the report.
Unions stress that <x0paga, labour rights and social security of workers dare not be treated as the negotiable category”.
They call on the RTK Board, management and state institutions to take urgent measures to ensure the public broadcaster's financial continuation.
“It is unacceptable that a strategically important public institution reach a point where the payment of salaries” is further questioned, said in response.
Unions have warned they will closely monitor the situation and use all union and institutional means for the protection of workers' rights.
