Donald Trump has declared that Hormuz Strait remains closed because of its decisions and that the United States has, according to him, full control over this key maritime point.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, the US president confirmed that the strait would only open when an agreement is reached.
We'll open the strait. We're closed for now. We have full control over the difficulties”, said 79-year-old.
According to him, the other parties would have already opened this naval corridor, but he claims it has directly influenced its closure.
They would have opened it three days ago. They came to us and said we'd agree to open the strait, ” added Trump.
He also stated that if the strait was opened immediately, Iran would generate about $500m a day from trade through it.
“I am the one who kept it closed”, he said, adding that its opening will occur only after an agreement.
Trump also acknowledged that the situation could temporarily affect US fuel prices, saying Americans could pay more “for a short period of”, if the process of the agreement lasts. /Telegraph
