US expects NATO to discuss security in Hormuz Strait

The US expects NATO to discuss security in Hormuz Strait.
The Trump administration expects security in Hormuz Strait to be among the topics to be discussed by NATO leaders at this week's Ankara summit in Turkey, CNN reported, citing a senior American official.
“I believe the Hormuz Strait and the protection of maritime traffic going through it will be a topic to be discussed,” said the official.
According to him, some NATO allies have expressed willingness to contribute to maritime security efforts, but many of them “do not have ships or resources needed to contribute to a significant maritime effort. ”
The official added that the administration's broader message to the allies remains increasing defence spending and military readiness.
This is always the context in which we are currently working, while we encourage our allies to be better able and to invest in their defence, and therefore in collective protection,” he said.
President Donald Trump is expected to leave late Monday for the NATO summit in Ankara.
