The decision has been made in co-ordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, as a precautionary measure to protect the livestock sector and avoid spreading the disease in Kosovo.
According to the official announcement, the stop applies to Albania's entire territory and will remain in force until another decision, depending on epidemiological developments.
Authorities have announced that the controls will be added to all border checkpoints and in areas along the border with Albania, while border municipalities are instructed to impose strict measures for limiting livestock movement.
Meanwhile, farmers have been urged to increase alertness, avoid contact with other animals, and immediately report any suspicious cases to veterinary services.
Peste des Petits Ruminants is a highly contagious viral disease that affects sheep and goats, causing significant losses in the livestock. However, authorities stress that it is not dangerous for people and poses no threat to public health.
The responsible institutions have appealed for the full respect of established measures in order to prevent further spread of the disease in the country.
