Konjufca said Kosovo and Belgium enjoy excellent relations.
His “Visit and the meeting we just completed are clear evidence of the excellent relationship between the Republic of Kosovo and the Kingdom of Belgium, as well as of the shared will to deepen these relations even further. Dear Deputy Prime Minister, Kosovo friend Prévot, allow me to express our deepest gratitude for the steadfast support Belgium has given to the Republic of Kosovo over the years. From the principled stance in support of NATO's intervention in 1999 to the recognition of our independence, only a few days after its proclamation by Belgium, and then Kosovo's continued support for integration into the European Union, but even for our membership in many international organisations, are the support of Belgium, which has been very important to the Republic of Kosovo and, as such, is valued on the part of the people, even on the part of the institutions of our country“, he said.
We are grateful for the role your country has played in building the capacities of our institutions, especially in the diplomatic staff of this ministry where you are staying today. As one of the first countries to provide concrete support in the direction of training and exchange of expertise, Belgium has directly contributed to the professional formation of our generation of diplomats who today represent the Republic of Kosovo on 53 missions we have throughout the world. During the productive meeting we had, we discussed further deepening of political co-operation, but also economics and in all areas of our countries, but I would especially highlight foreign policy, security and defence. In the foreign policy field, Belgium is one of the most important partners within the European Union, and in that spirit I expressed my highest appreciation to Deputy Prime Minister Prévot for their support during the process of removing European Union measures towards Kosovo, which was a very important step forward in our European aspirations“, he said.
Konjufca said they expect membership in the Council of Europe to happen quickly.
“at the same time stressed it, I highlighted the expectations that the Republic of Kosovo has as regards integration processes, primarily the taking of the questionnaire on the part of the European Union, which... which is an issue that is waiting and becoming three and a half years from when this issue is still not being addressed by Brussels and the European Union.
The support Belgium has given in Kosovo's integration processes so far has been very important for our country, and we expect this support to continue in the next stages of our path, even towards the Council of Europe, where we expect a membership to occur soon, even on the road, in clarifying our path to the European Union. In the field of security and defence, Belgium has been an important partner of the Republic of Kosovo through all the key moments of our modern history“, he stressed.
