An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was recorded at 05:32 in Greece's Thesprotia region, according to the announcement of the Athens National Observatory's Geodynamic Institute.
According to official data, the temperature was located about two miles [12 km] east of the Leptocarya area, while the depth is estimated at about 13 miles [13 km].
Seismic shocks were felt in some areas of Greece, but also Albania. Most specifically, the cities of Saranda and Gjirokastra were the most affected.
In Saranda, she woke us up after the bed was shaken. It seemed as if it were too long before we started to react. Other times less, but felt again”, said a citizen of the Euro-Mediterranean Seismology Centre website.
After the major earthquake, there is a series of afternoons, where the strongest has reached the 4.7 magnitude, and another 3.4 on the Richter scale.
Epirus regional Governor Alexandros Kahrimanis declared for ERT that afternoons are coming, but no serious problems have been reported so far. He described the earthquake as very strong, especially in the municipality of Zitsa.
According to him, several small rocks have been recorded on the Egnatia Highway in the segment to Igumenica.
Meanwhile, the deputy head of Civil Protection in Janina, Efthimios Chrysostomoou, said residents have been out of homes for fear, and that power cuts have been recorded in some areas, as often after earthquakes over 5 Richter.
The president of the Organisation for Earthquake Planning and Protection, Efthimis Lekas, stressed that the earthquake had a low depth and that post-x0 is a positive <x0shrean” until it is clarified if the quake with the magnitude around 5.3 was the main earthquake.
He also cautioned residents not to use dwellings that have suffered minimal damage without first being controlled by specialists.
