Trump urged Netanyah to withdraw Israeli troops from Syria and Lebanon during the last call

US President Donald Trump has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah to start withdrawing Israeli troops from southern Syria and Lebanon, during a call held last week, Barak Ravid of “Channel 12” and “Axios” reported on Tuesday, citing American and Israeli officials.

According to Thursday's call report, Trump has warned Netanyah that Israel's military presence on Syrian territory is creating tensions that could lead to an escalation of the situation.

They don't want you there. You need to re-regulate”, Trump reportedly told the Israeli prime minister.

According to the same reports, the American president has made a similar request for Lebanon. Netanyah has reportedly retaliated by citing Israel's security needs.

The report stresses that Washington has been calling for months for a security agreement between Israel and Syria, but has later concluded that Netanyah was unwilling to meet the necessary conditions, including the withdrawal of troops from Syria.

The Israeli prime minister's office has stated last week that during the call, Netanyah has highlighted “the need for security zones along Israel's” borders.

Meanwhile, the White House has declined to comment on the contents of the report, but highlighted “the strong relationship” between Trump and Netanyah, describing the American president as “a peace fighter”.

Israel-Leban Talks

Last month, Israel agreed to withdraw its forces from two “pilot zones, defined in southern Lebanon, as part of negotiations with Beirut to enable the Lebanese Armed Forces to take over security in these areas and to ensure that they are clear of Hezbollah's weapons.

However, after two and a half weeks, Israel has not yet withdrawn from either of the pilot areas, slowing the talks between the parties.

A new round of US-sponsored direct talks between Israel and Lebanon took place in Rome on Tuesday, where Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Letter led the Jerusalem delegation.

An American State Department spokesman named the talks as “production” and developed into a positive “mosphere”.

The two sides are eager to move forward. Today's conversations will continue tomorrow”, the spokesman said.

The parties discussed the implementation of the first group of Israeli withdrawals from two pilot areas in southern Lebanon.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sayar said he expects these talks to help implement the agreements.

“We are ready to move forward by implementing these two pilot areas. I hope and tend to believe that this round of discussions in Rome will spur it”, Sa properar told reporters at a news conference in Jerusalem.

Tensions With Hezbollah

US-led diplomacy began after Hezbollah brought Lebanon into a war by attacking Israel in early March in support of Iran, which was facing a joint US-Israel air campaign.

The talks have continued despite strong objections from Hezbollah, backed by Iran, which claims only Iranian pressure on Washington can ensure the end of the war and Israel's withdrawal.

Iran called for the end of the war in Lebanon as part of the interim agreement with Washington signed last month, but the deal has been strained over the past week by renewed US-Iran hostilities in the Persian Gulf.

Israel was not party to these talks.

The Israeli army is controlling what it describes as a “area tampon” about 10 kilometers in Lebanon along the entire length of the Israeli border.

Israeli officials say this area is necessary for the protection of northern Israeli communities from Hezbollah's attacks.

A June 26th meeting in Washington resulted in an agreement requiring the end of the conflict in Lebanon, the disarming of terrorist groups reference to Hezbollah's deployment of Lebanese troops to the south and the progressive withdrawal of Israeli forces.

However, deadly clashes have continued. Hezbollah has rejected the agreement and efforts to disarm it, while Israel has declared its troops will stay in southern Lebanon as long as Hezbollah remains armed.

Border incidents with Lebanon and Syria

On Thursday, a group of column activists a grown man and four minors crossed the border in Lebanon before being accompanied back to Israel by the Israeli Protection Forces.

According to the Israeli Army, the group was discovered crossing the “border a few metres” near the Ghajar community, which extends along the border.

At once after the discovery, security forces began searching the area and shortly later found civilians and returned them to Israeli territory”, the IDF said.

They surrendered to the police for further questions.

The group belongs to the Ur Tzafon Movement, a Zionist religious organisation calling for settlements in southern Lebanon, in areas that claim to belong to the Jewish people.

On Monday, some Israeli settlers of the settlers again tried to cross the border illegally in Syria, the southern Golan Heights.

The Israeli Army said the deployed troops in the area prevented them from crossing the border and stopped them. They then handed over to the police for further questions.

Activists, who call themselves the “Basan's personnel”, have tried to enter Syria several times over the past year while calling for the creation of settlements in the area.
