In her speech, Osmani stressed the importance of women's leadership in building more peaceful, stronger and more fair societies, Klakosova.tv reports.
Now I look to all the women you aspire to become the next generation of peacemakers and guardians, architects and defenders of a more peaceful, secure and just world. On this International Women's Day, I speak not only as president of a state but also as wife, mother, and daughter, who has learned that with determination and courage any imposed prejudice and barrier can be overcome, and that the promise of the future belongs to women as much as men. The history of my country, the Republic of Kosovo, is a living proof of this truth.
Our path to freedom and citizenship was not written only by men. It was formed by women and men who stood side by side; by women who led peaceful resistance when our voices were silent, by women who endured and resisted in the darkest hours of war; and by women who, when silence replaced the sound of weapons, became moral forces in the pursuit of justice and the rebuilding of institutions with vision and industrious devotion. Their strength is our country's moral compass”.
Their legacy continues to guide our democratic path. From this story we have learned a permanent lesson: a peace process that excludes women cannot have real success. A security system created without women's voices cannot stand. A democratic order leaving women behind remains incomplete. Women are not observers of progress. They are his leaders, from public and political life, to security forces, diplomacy, economy and business. Experience has shown us that when women participate fully, societies become more righteous, stronger, and richer”, Osmani said, reports Klakosova.tv.
Osmani underlined that the peace processes and security systems that exclude women cannot be sustainable, and that women are not just observers of progress, but its leaders in politics, security, diplomacy, economy and business.
Last year's “I had the great honour of receiving the 2025 Women's Peace and Security Award from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. We accepted it, not as a personal difference, but as a reminder of our joint mission, to ensure that women's leadership is fully recognised as essential to building lasting peace, strengthening democracies, and shaping a safer world for all.
“However, we must face the reality ahead. Worldwide, many women still face violence, marginalization, and injustice. The outcome cannot be left only by one nation or generation. It's the responsibility we all share. Advancing women's rights and leadership is not just a matter of justice. It is essential to the health of our democracies, the preservation of peace, and the protection of human dignity. We must remain clear in our purpose and steadfast in our devotion. Women's voices should never be silenced or ignored. Their leadership should not be treated as optional and inequality should not be accepted as the status quo. Because when women lead, societies always get stronger. When equality is real, peace becomes more stable. The future we aspire to is a future where every ambition of the woman is recognised as legitimate, her contribution is appreciated, and her leadership is understood for what it really is, necessary”, the state's first said. /Periscope/
