Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Kuqim Ahmeti has talked about the consequences of rising oil prices in Kosovo from the conflict in the Middle East.
Ahmeti, invited to “FIVE” in Dukagjin has warned of the immediate consequences of rising oil derivative prices and their impact on the country's economy.
According to Ahmeti, companies importing energy products from the Middle East, Hormuz Strait and Asia have received information that prices will double.
We've all seen that the first consequences are increases in all the derivatives on the pump and then this has affected the price of companies performing the delivery services of these derivatives. I have received information these days that all companies that are involved in importing various products from either the Middle East or that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, in this case even those that come from Asia have received information from partner companies that the price will be twice as much as they have received by now”, Ahmeti said.
Among other things, Ahmeti criticised the lack of response from state institutions, stressing that so far they have not held a meeting to discuss actions to take.
It means that we have immediately seen price hikes and that there will be prices of other products that will increase, unfortunately. So far there has been no increasing inflation movement we've demanded from the beginning that actions be taken by the state and that we should be called and discussed the actions that we would have to take so far we haven't held with institutions yet. Institutions have remained silent and are standing as spectators and are offering no solution to this. We've also requested lowering the excise for oil derivatives that have a huge impact on our country knowing that 100% imported from outside we've requested that payment for essential products be suspended for some time in this case for taxing for essential products, VAT-in”.
Also review the possibility for businesses facing this situation because no end to this war is being known to take any action to help the affected businesses. So far, no action has been taken, and what we're seeing these days is that the state is willing to make an authority that deals with the price set-up, institutions are having comfort in creating new agencies while these are actually making the reputation is a sad situation in which we're located”, Ahmeti said.
Ahmeti, among other things, said they have consistently offered willingness to institutions for co-operation in finding solutions so that citizens cannot be harmed. /Tv Dukagini/
