Rizvanolli with bad news: These two years will be challenging in electricity, KEK blocks should be stopped for several months

Vetevendosje's elected MP, Artane Rizvanolli, has said that the Kosovo will face challenging periods in the energy sector this year and next year.

The incumbent Economy Minister said it is due to the halting of blocks of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), as a result of investments in modernisation and rehabilitation of thermal power plants.

Rizvanolli has stressed that there is still no decision on raising tariffs, but has added that some objective developments in the energy sector may have an impact on this direction.

During the inauguration ceremony of investments in energy efficiency at the High Economic School “Isa Bolatini” in Podujevo, she warned that a high import of electricity is expected this year too.

“S must first be stressed that the published news has to do with the demand of other suppliers and operators, while still there is no decision. However, some objective developments in the energy sector must be taken into account, which may have implications in this regard. In KEK last year, investments in modernisation and rehabilitation have been under way for more than 40 years. This means that during the past year, this year and next year we will face a challenging period, as the blocs must stop for several months to realise investments. This is a necessary sacrifice for us and for future generations”, Rizvanolli has declared.

She has stressed that these are the biggest and most serious investments being made in KEK after four decades.

“According to official data, by 2020 in KEK around 1 billion euros have been invested, but without increased capacity, without increasing efficiency and without prolonged power plant life expectancy. Current investments are aimed at increasing thermal life expectancy for about 20 years, reducing pollution, increasing capacity and improving security”, it has added.

Rizvanolli has indicated that KEK investments have also been the main reason why electricity imports increased during 2025, stressing that import is expected to remain high even this year and next, due to these objective factors./Periscopi/
