Murat Jashar refuses presidential post: Yasar family belongs to all Albanians

Foreign Affairs Minister Glauk Konjufca said on Wednesday that if a name from the family of national hero Adem Jashari was proposed for president of Kosovo, this would constitute an automatic “consensus” in society.

However, an candidacy from the Jashar family is not expected to happen.

Murat Jashari, in a proposal for VOX Kosovo, has refused the opportunity to take over the presidential post.

He has stressed that the Jashari family “belongs to all Albanians” and should not be included in common political calculations.

According to him, such a responsibility could be taken into account only under extraordinary circumstances, such as in the case of any civil war or situation that requires national unity and sacrifice, but not in normal political conditions.

Kosovo must elect the new president by 4 March to avoid further early elections, as current president Vjosa Osmani's mandate comes to an end on April 4th.

Osman currently does not appear to have enough parliamentary support for re-election, while other potential names have not been formalised, though the deadline is approaching. /Periscopi/
