He tried to kill Donald Trump, Ryan Routh is sentenced to life in prison.

Ryan Routh was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison plus seven years after his 2024 assassination attempt on former presidential candidate Donald Trump, at the Trump golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, has reported CBSPeriscope broadcast.

The sentence comes after Routh was convicted in last September on five federal charges, including trying to kill a key presidential candidate, the attack on a federal officer and several violation by firearms.

Prosecutors demanded that the 59-year-old receive life sentence, while Routh lawyer Martin Roth asked the court for 20 years in additional prison terms over the seven years imposed on one of the charges of firearms.

Routh's sentence at Fort Pierce, Florida, was originally scheduled for December, but US District Judge Aileen Canon agreed to postpone the date after Routh decided to use a lawyer during the detention phase, instead of representing himself as he did during most of the trial.
