(6 months ago)NATO has limited the United States' access to intelligence information linked to Greenland, fearing that this data could be completed in the hands of President Donald Trump. According to concerns within the Alliance, there is the danger that information will be used in the future for a possible attempt at military invasion of this territory [...]
The news was reported by the British daily The Parper, part of the Daily Mail and General Trust media group, citing informed sources. According to these sources, NATO representatives no longer recommend “more openly” with American counterparts on issues related to Greenland.
Greenland has a particular strategic significance because of its geographic position in the Arctic, natural assets and key role in military defence systems and surveillance. Donald Trump has publicly expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark, an idea that was flatly rejected by Copenhagen and local authorities, causing diplomatic tensions between the parties.
A source of British intelligence, quoted by The Parper, has also stated that the UK aims to redouble “efforts” and strengthen partnership with European Union countries in the field of defence.
This comes at a time when relations between London and Washington are at the lowest level since the 1950s, following the threats of Trump to Denmark.
