Too much weight and lack of physical activity will surely shorten your life span, but what is worse? New research has shown that physical inactivity causes twice as many deaths as it does overweight.
Overweight and lack of physical activity are two key factors that negatively affect life's life expectancy and quality. But which one of these should be more disturbing?
The study published in the British Journal of Sports of Medicine points out that lack of physical activity is the leading cause of premature deaths greater than overweight.
Over 330,000 people of different ages and genders participated in the study, which lasted about 12 years. During this period, researchers regularly measured the body mass index (BMI), the waist perimeter, the level of physical activity and the general health state of participants.
The results were clear: Those who do not exercise physical activity have a higher risk of premature death compared to those with a mass body index of over 30 (overweight). Moreover, only 20 minutes of walking a day is enough to reduce the risk of premature death by 30%, despite body weight.
Physical activity helps regulate blood pressure, improve glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, and positively affect cholesterol levels. Hence, regular exercise has an outstanding health effect, regardless of body weight.
Males, on the other hand, should be more careful, since they usually have shorter life spans and higher waist perimeters, which is a risk factor for heart and metabolic disease. This underscores the importance of starting physical activity early in life to prevent future consequences.
Bottom Line: Improved physical condition should be a priority for all because regular physical activity significantly reduces the risk of illness and premature death, and that is valid regardless of body weight. /Telegraphy/ Periscope.
